New Products Review
By Kelly Quinn
This issue we’ll be reviewing the new Street & Steel brand (model) helmet. This DOT rated model incorporates a modular design, giving you the flexibility to wear with the face bar raised at lower speeds or lowered for highway speeds. It has an internal shield that can be raised or lowered using the convenient side control switch. What makes this special is that there are not a lot of helmets out there with an internal shield feature that comes at under a $200 price range. It has an optional smoked shield available (even though the internal shield comes with standard smoked tint). The inner lining is removable, making cleaning easier.

The helmet has built in anti-fog ventilation, not to mention a superior ventilation system that directs airflow across the top of the head and out the rear exhaust port, allowing the cool air in and forcing the existing warm air out the back. A lot of helmets fall short in this category, usually having intake vents, but no exhaust. Both intake and exhaust vents are easily adjustable. Geared for the cruiser market, it comes in a flat black finish with completely removable badges and stickers (although, we don’t recommend removing the DOT sticker).

Constructed of a super lightweight polycarbonate material that results in reduced neck fatigue on longer rides. The rear exhaust ports are actually aerodynamically designed to reduce wind drag and the usual highway speed “wind-whipping” effect. Here in the valley we’re seeing more and more of the cruiser type riders wearing these modular design helmets. Let’s face it (pardon the pun), besides the extreme weather, there’s bugs. The first time you get hit in the face by a bumble bee, full-faced protection starts making a lot more sense. After my dad took two bees to the face within two months, he was done with open-face helmets. The only other key feature to tell you about doesn’t actually involve the helmet. When you buy this helmet (or any other equipment) from Cycle Gear, it comes covered by our 7-day exchange policy. You try it out a couple of times and decide you don’t like it. Just bring it back within 7 days and we’ll exchange it for another equally priced helmet. No hassles!
