Aero Dog
Aero Dogs Takes Flight

A unique eatery in Tulare recently reopened under new ownership. Dan Williams, a two-tour Navy veteran, and his family had recently resettled back in their central valley hometown, when an opportunity presented itself to the former Navy “culinary specialist.” Aero Dogs, a locally well known, one-of-a-kind hot dog restaurant was available. The “Original Home of the Flying Weiner” is located in downtown Tulare within the fuselage of a modified vintage (airplane). Coming from a family that operated a chain of hot dog stands throughout the valley, Dan jumped at the chance.

With some help from friends and original owner Don LeBaron, the new restaurateur was in business. On a shoestring budget, they were able to get the local landmark up and running. The new owner had a novel formula in mind for his menu. He has established food partnerships with other restaurants in the area, offering fresh-baked bread bowls, tri-tip chili, and micro-brewed soft drinks from Brewbakers Brewery and Restaurant of Visalia. Dan points out all ingredients used for his menu are fresh and locally produced in the central valley.

The result is a gourmet-inspired hot dog experience. The dog extends a couple of inches on either end of the bun. Added are some mustard, a heaping of “Tail-Gunner chili,” a mound of diced onions, relish, and cheese. This is one of the best chili dogs this side of Chicago. Besides dogs, the menu also features monster Frito-boats, and chili-smothered tamales. Beginning this spring, Aero Dogs will begin offering barbeque tri-tip, chicken, and ribs. Plus, Dan has plans for the “hangar” located behind the airplane’s “landing strip.” With all systems go, Dan and his flight crew would like to invite bikers to stop by, either while on a ride or even to hold club meetings. “We never let a customer leave hungry,” Dan promises, “We offer good food and generous portions.” For more information, go to www.aerodogs.com or call (559) 686-6045.
